lyrics

The Ballade of Cactus Jack’s

Poor Evergreen, Colorado
Became a one-saloon town,
But the best rage of Mother Nature
Can’t keep a good saloon down!

Now Cactus Jack’s was a good saloon
At the top side of the town
Where you could get a burger from the grill
And a beer to wash it down.

All the best bands around
Would play upon their stage
And every once in a while
Someone got engaged.

You could sit out on the deck
Over lazy old Bear Creek
And take in all the wonders
And savor your good drink.

Then one day the rains came down
And nothing could make them stop!
Lazy Bear Creek rose and rose
And it just would not drop!

It’s picture became famous
Over all the interwebs,
The creek flowed right over the deck,
And it didn’t seem to ebb.

Then one day, the sun came out
And the town was filled with hope
They hung out a sign; “We Made it!”
And they washed it out with soap.

But Mother Nature wasn’t done
with our town or with our state,
And the next day the rains came back
And its wrath was very great!

Lazy Bear Creek rose again
And became a raging fury!
It washed away the poor, old deck,
It seemed wide as the Missouri!
It came over the sandbags
And filled up the noble bar
The owners packed up all their booze
And loaded it in the car.

Poor Evergreen, Colorado
Became a one-saloon town
But the best rage of Mother Nature
Can’t keep a good saloon down!

Cactus Jack’s will be back
When the town dries out once again
Now the whiskey has been washed away
And the cleanup can begin.

Cactus Jack’s will rise up again
Like the Phoenix of locals bars
And we’ll sit out on the new deck
And look up at the stars!

Bear Creek will become lazy
And life in Evergreen will resume
And it all begins at Cactus Jack’s
The mighty old saloon!

Poor Evergreen, Colorado
Became a one-saloon town
But the best rage of Mother Nature
Can’t keep a good saloon down!
